
Dr. David Gikungu, Director Kenya Meteorological Department , has been elected to the WMO Executive Council during the just concluded 19th World Meteorological Congress (Cg-19) in Geneva. The WMO Executive Council plays a crucial role in coordinating various programs, managing the budget and considering resolutions and recommendations from regional associations and technical commissions. Additionally, the Council studies and provides recommendations on matters that impact international meteorology and related activities. The EC comprises several key positions, including a President, 3 Vice-presidents, six regional association presidents, and 27 directors of National Meteorological or Hydrometeorological services elected by Congress. Dr. David Gikungu joins the 36 Permanent Representatives of WMO member states, 9 of whom are from Africa, who have been elected as Members of the EC during the just concluded 19th Congress meeting.
