This Branch consists of three sub branches, namely observation and network design, climate data management and climate analytical services. Observation and network design sub branch coordinate the overall management of the meteorological observation Networks. This is achieved through daily monitoring of meteorological data transmission from all the stations in Kenya to the Regional Telecommunication Centre (RTC) at KMD and to the climate data management services sub-branch for all manned stations and to all relevant servers of different Automatic Weather Stations (AWSs) for the AWSs spread across the country. Climate Data Management Services (CDMS) sub branch is mandated with ensuring availability of high quality climate data records in a secure and easily accessible archive, for current use and for posterity. This mandate is realized through archiving high quality climate data for the Department and availing the archived climate data to internal and external users, in a timely manner and in line with KMD’s data policy.
