The Africa Climate Summit (ACS) – Second Edition marked a historic turning point for climate and health action in Africa. At a high-level side event, regional leaders and international experts celebrated the launch of the framework, a first-of-its-kind integration of air quality data into the Regional Framework for Climate Services (RfCS).

This bold step, led by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) and driven by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) in partnership with UNEP, was described as a groundbreaking innovation – reshaping how national meteorological and hydrological services (NMHSs) in the IGAD region monitor, predict, and deliver information that directly impacts citizens’ health and resilience.

In attendance were Edward Maina Muriuki – Acting Director of Meteorological Services, Kenya Meteorological Department; Dr Bob Alex Ogwang – Director, Department of Meteorological Services, Uganda; Calistus Wachana – Climate Services Expert, IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre; Dr Abubakr Salih Babiker – Technical Coordinator for Meteorological Infrastructure in Africa, World Meteorological Organization (WMO); Ngongang Wandji Danube – Research Fellow, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI Africa).
